By undertaking this study, Tugun was identified as one of the city’s southern central hubs with a unique and diverse character. Through the study a number of additional aspects were highlighted to be included within the City Plan to ensure the features of the village are maintained and enhanced.

The unique character features of Tugun, which are proposed to be incorporated in the City Plan, are summarised as:
Access and movement - Proximity to the Gold Coast Airport
Activity and built form - Supports diversity of retail and community/public uses
Public realm - Retains the traditional high street character
Social and cultural - Strong community values, with Tugun Village as a focal point
Urban structure - Recognise Tugun as a family oriented beach village
